UK SUPERMARKET CHAIN Asda has faced a massive social media backlash for selling a rather questionable-looking ‘wearable flag’.
The £3 item, which features a white hood and the word ‘England’ emblazoned on a St George’s Cross, is designed to keep football fans dry during the World Cup.
Only thing is, Twitter has figured out that it looks somewhat dodgy on – a little bit like the getup of racist US group the Ku Klux Klan.
A company spokesperson told The Guardian:
We know there’s chatter on Twitter about our wearable World Cup flags, but it’s simply a flag with a hood – nothing more nothing less.
We opted for a hood on our wearable England and Brazilian flags as you never know what the British weather will bring.
That’s all it is, just chatter.
According to the Asda wesbite, the wearable flag is now sold out. Oh dear.
